Jane Canfield

Note from Seeger Gallery: Jane's work has a distinctive style and is attracting considerable interest from collectors. Her passion for architecture is prevalent in her works. And like architecture, she lays down strong foundations in her drawings before applying inks or paint. Her works encompass geometry and the arabesque, which lend themselves to her paintings, stencils and linocuts. Her use of black is certainly her trademark in her strong compositions. Like the Impressionists, many of her works are painted "en plein air" thus capturing the light and atmosphere of the specific season and time of day.

Jane welcomes commissions.

“My influences range from Architecture and the Art Deco movement, to women artists of the 20s - 40s including Margaret Preston and the Japanese Ukiyo-e (Woodblock) prints. I grew up surrounded by art (I come from four generations of artists and my Father Tony Canfield is represented in major collections around the world).

“The Impressionists, Fauve movements and my friends, are all things that inspire me; and since I started painting full time I have found that my work has 'grown legs' of its own.”
