Jane Canfield's latest works...

Jane Canfield's latest works from her Victorian roadtrip in April - to her explorations in painting on hemp!

With the gallery printing the arthouse fabrics on hemp - a sustainable fabric of the future - it made sense for Jane to give it a try. Many of the "Old Masters" were known to paint on hemp - it gives the composition an immediate sense of depth and weight.

Research has shown that many of the canvasses in the past, were infact made of hemp canvas. It does not rot as easily as linen or cotton; and remains flexible for much longer. Hemp does not shrink and stretch from atmospheric moisture as much as linen.

Jane is preparing for her show at "Seaview Gallery" in September 2009 - Victoria.

The launch ranges are the Indigenous "Julu Wajaar" and "Deco Revival".

The fabrics suit heavy and light upholstery, and all soft-furnishings. The designs derive from original works; and are hand screenprinted by Sydney-based arthouse screenprinter: Steve of Screenhaus."Working with original works of art across a new format; meant I had to work alongside a screenprinter who had artistic and technical integrity."

All the designs are printed on a range of hemps - from commercial canvas blends; to soft drapes. Hemp is a very old textile and lies comfortably with the Seeger Gallery vision of sustainability - from art, through to the environment.
